National Space Day
National Space Day (NSpD), is an annual celebration in India. Celebrated on August 23rd, honors the triumph of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander. This day seeks to promote space science and astronomy nationwide. The first celebration on August 23, 2024, will highlight the theme "Touching lives while touching the moon: India's Space Saga.”
Why We Celebrate!
CHANDRAYAAN 3 India's 3rd lunar mission, launched by lndian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It embarked its journey aboard on LVM3-M4 launch vehicle on 14th July, 2023 from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The mission gained global recognition when its Vikram lander, carrying the Pragyan Rover, made a successful soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole (Shiv Shakti Point) on August 23, 2023. This achievement made India the first country to land on the Lunar South Pole and the fourth to land on the moon. Chandrayaan-3 highlights India's growing expertise in Space exploration and aims to advance our knowledge of the moon’s geology and resources.
